In conjunction with the West Highland Railway Society AGM, Pioneer Beyer Peacock, Garratt locomotive Tasmanian Government Railways K class K1 returned to the Welsh Highland Railway. The steam locomotive hauled a series of passenger services, using FR stock, between Caernarfon and Rhyd Ddu. The K1 is part of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway fleet, but due to its size is not capable of hauling the full length WHR trains on its own, thus when withdrawn for overhaul it was not a company priority for it to return to steam. While a team of volunteers worked on the locomotives overhaul, it was an agreement with the Statfold Barn Railway which saw its return to steam greatly speed up. The locomotive returned to steam in the spring of 2020 at Statfold Barn, were the locomotive will spend most of its time. This was the loco's first visit home since the completion of its overhaul.

 

Beyer Garratt NG G16 2-6-2+2-6-2 No. 130 was in use on demonstration goods workings, with a mixed rake of South African wagons and van. Beyer Garratt NGG16 2-6-2+2-6-2 No. 87 in SAR livery was working the days 'Gelert Explorer' from Caernarfon to Beddgelert. Double Fairlie 'David Lloyd George' is seen in the Aberglaslyn Pass with the final return 'Glaslyn Venturer' on the day, running from Beddgelert to Porthmadog Harbour station. Also in action is diesel loco 'Vale of Ffestiniog' which acted as pilot locomotive for the Empty Coaching Stock movements between Dinas and Caernarfon.
