Ffestiniog railway scoiety AGM Weekend Specials

29th & 30th April 2022

A special weekend of steam trains on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway, in conjunction with the Ffestiniog Railway Society's AGM. Quarry Hunslet's Elin (Hunslet 705 of 1899) and Sybil (Hunslet No. 827 of 1903) visited from the Richmond Light Railway, joining Britomart (Hunslet No. 707 of 1899) in running passenger shuttles from Porthmadog Harbour station to Minffordd and Pont Croesor. Britomart and Sybil (formerly resident at the Brecon Mountain Railway) previous worked together at Pen yr Orsedd quarry, this is their first reunion in preservation. Elin's differing appearance from other Quarry Hunslets is down to its 1938 rebuilt, when the locomotive was fitted with a Marshall boiler, in place of its life expired one.

At Minffordd, in the recently restored Gweithdy building, there was a display from the ‘The Festiniog Railway Heritage Group’ (FRHG), alongside the Gwernol Fach, 16mm indoor garden railway, were we see a Roundhouse 'Taliesin' in operation. Alongside the FRS Specials, we see Blanche, Prince, Merredin Emrys and David Lloyd George on the Woodland Wanderer and Mountain Spirit trains, alongside South African Railway's Beyer Garratt NGG16s 87 and 130 on the Welsh Highland named trains, 'The Harbourmaster' and 'Snowdonia Star'.

We also see some action from Friday 29th April, with a Penrhyn double header on a rake of skips at Minffordd, with Elin and Hugh Napier
